Cat Facts

cat factsSometimes, as your watching your furry baby play and get crazy, you just have to wonder where the heck did these cute cuddly critters come from!

No one has been able to pinpoint the time exactly of when cats became domesticated. It is known that the cat was domesticated in Egypt, probably around 2000 B.C., and that most modern cats are descendants of the cats of ancient Egypt.  One reason it is difficult to say precisely when domestication occurred is that the ancient Egyptians did not distinguish between wild and tame cats in their descriptions of them. There was one word for cat-and that was miu or mii, meaning "he or she who mews."

Cats were held in high regard in Egypt. There are many ancient statues and glyph writings with cat's in them. The cats kept the mice out of the food grains, the owner of the grains gave the cats a place to live. Thank goodness those ancient Egyptians knew a good furry thing when they saw it.

Cats are a distant cousin to the bigger cats that roam the plains still free and wild. This is where they get a lot of their hunting skills from.

If your reading this site, then your cat probably enjoys one of those lives that we all say every now and then, "the life of a cat". They play, hunt and have fun and have their very own human to do their bidding. Who's really the master of the house?

Things to know about your furry baby's behavior:

• Baby's ears are flattened;
Furry baby is either annoyed or frightened. Twitching them backward and forward usually means that your baby is either anxious or worried about whatever they are hearing or looking at.

• Baby is laying down with eyes closed;
But with tail flicking slightly at the tip, baby is really awake and spying on you. Baby can keep it up all day long and you'll be none the wiser.

• Back is arched high, and ears flattened;
Reach in and find out. Then go get the band aids because your going to have furry baby claw marks after you get scratched.

• Purr Motor is Running;
Keep the pets and rubs coming. Baby is enjoying the moment and giving you the treat of hearing their prized purr motor.

Remember, cats are very much like people and each cat is an individual. They are a product of the environment that surrounds them. So, if you give your baby lots of love and attention, they will be glad to let you live with them and take care of them so you can enjoy those furry nose rubs and purr motor sessions.

Be nice to animals, they were here first!
